The Pirates bounced back from Thursday’s loss to the Phillies to win the second game of a four-game series last night 5-2.
Bailey Falter had a good game on the mound against his former team, going five innings and allowing one run on four hits, striking out three. David Bednar did get some redemption from blowing a game earlier in the week, picking up the save and notching a strikeout in the process.
The Pirates opened the scoring in the second inning when Henry Davis drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Andrew McCutchen. In the 4th, Connor Joe hit a ground ball single and took advantage of a slip by Trea Turner to score Michael A. Taylor. After the Phillies Brandon Marsh scored on a soft-hit grounder to Falter in the bottom of the 5th, the Pirates got a run back after a pitch hit catcher J.T. Realmuto on the wrist. Hayes was called out on strikes, but Davis scored from third. Davis would factor in on the next run, hitting an RBI double to score Jared Triolo in the top of the 8th followed by a Bryan Reynolds RBI grounder to score Davis. Philly tried to come back in the bottom of the 8th with a bases-loaded walk drawn by Alec Bohm.
The Pirates and the Phillies play again this afternoon at 3:40 on WCCS.
