After an off day, the Pirates play the Phillies tonight in the first game of a four-game set in Philadelphia. Even with a loss to Detroit on Tuesday, the Bucs are 9-3, the best winning percentage in the National League. The Phils are 6-6.
Rookie Jared Jones makes his third start of the season for the Pirates. He’s 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He’ll face Phillies lefty Ranger Suárez, who is 1-0 with a 4.09 ERA.
Yesterday, the Pirates ended Carmen Mlodzinski’s minor league rehab stint but in a surprise move, they did not activate him to the Major League roster. Instead, they optioned him to Indianapolis. Mlodzinski is considered a key to the Pirates’ bullpen as a setup man.
