Pennsylvania’s Attorney General is warning state residents about scammers targeting parents and students who will be taking the SAT, PSAT and ACT exams.
Attorney General Michelle Henry says that the scammer claims to be associated with the College Board or other educational organizations while offering preparation materials. The scammer will call the victim and start off by verifying their address and then asking for parental permission and a deposit for the test prep materials. The scammers claim that the deposit will be refunded after the test materials are used and returned.
Henry says that people should be wary of unsolicited phone calls and emails requesting a payment, to never give personal or financial information over the phone or via email to an unsolicited call or email, tell the potential scammer that you need to check with your partner or child and then hang up. She also says that the College Board will never ask for bank or credit card information over the phone or in an email.
Those who feel they have been scammed can call the office at 1-800-441-2555 or by emailing scams@attorneygeneral.gov
