A Cherry Tree woman faces multiple charges stemming from a traffic stop in Clymer Borough last Sunday.
Clymer Borough Police say that at 9:02 PM, police pulled over a car driven by 46-year-old Amy Atherton of Cherry Tree for a burned-out license plate light and taillight. She failed to provide a vehicle registration card and was under the influence of drugs to the point that she could not drive safely. When police tried to investigate, she continually obstructed their progress. When the police tried to arrest her, she resisted and had to be taken to the ground.
Her vehicle was towed by police for a search, which turned up several items of drug paraphernalia. Police also discovered that she was responsible for a theft at the Clymer Sheetz, where she allegedly stole a sandwich from the store. She was later released to a sober adult.
Atherton is charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia, two driving related crimes, receiving stolen property and retail theft. Criminal complaints were filed through District Judge Christopher Welch’s office.
