Over two million dollars in state grant money will be coming to Indiana County for infrastructure projects.
The grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority yesterday in Harrisburg. In a joint statement, State Representative Jim Struzzi and State Senator Joe Pittman both offered praise for the grant money. Pittman said that the investments “will have a positive impact on local residents, as well as help to advance local economic development for many years to come.” Struzzi said that constituents would like to see their tax dollars go back into local infrastructure and credited local government leaders for starting the grant projects.
The four projects that will receive funding are:
- The Jimmy Stewart Airport Improvement Project, which will receive $996,000 to assist in the building of a new hangar. Groundbreaking for that project will be held this summer, and will help the airport be more attractive to charter services.
- The Marsh Run Bridge Repair project in Indiana Borough. $500,000 will be used to rehab five bridges along the Marsh Run corridor.
- The Lucernemines Paving Project, in which Center Township will receive $335,000 for resurfacing of 11 streets in the area.
- The Quince and Harry Road Culvert Replacements, in which Green Township will be awarded $195,000 to assist with the replacement of two culverts to redirect water flow away from the two roads.
