An Indiana man is due back in court today for an oral argument concerning his conviction on charges related to the sexual assault of a minor in 2012.
Court documents show that Woodrow Hicks, Jr. is due before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco for the court session today. He was convicted in 2014 for trying to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex. He was found guilty of attempted statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors among other crimes. Hicks appealed the conviction and was turned down by the Superior Court. He then appealed his sentence of an aggregate 16 months to five years, plus five years of probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He is imprisoned now for a probation violation.
In April, the State Superior Court remanded the case to Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas. The higher court ruling stated that the case’s “convoluted procedural history…features numerous missteps and misunderstandings” of the law by both the defendant’s appointed attorneys and the court in denying a sentencing appeal.
