Eight double-digit seeds pulled off upsets on the first two days of the NCAA Tournament.
Thirteen-seed Yale had the biggest upset on Friday after knocking off four-seed Auburn 78-76, earning its second tournament win in school history. A pair of 12-seeds also advanced to round two. Grand Canyon stunned five-seed Saint Mary’s 75-66 for its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Fellow 12-seed James Madison beat five-seed Wisconsin 72-61 to notch its first tournament win since 1983.
The action continues on Saturday with eight second-round games on the slate. Gonzaga clashes with Kansas in a four-five matchup in Salt Lake City, while top-seed North Carolina and nine-seed Michigan State will meet in Charlotte. Meanwhile one of the upset kings, Duquesne, will try to do it again as the 11-seeded Dukes will take on the number-3 seed Illinois Fighting Illini. That game is scheduled for 8:40 PM tonight.
