The State System of Higher Education and the union representing its coaches have come to terms on a new contract, and it will be voted on later this season by the union membership.
Both sides were in negotiations on Wednesday, and those ended with a tentative agreement between PASSHE and APSCUF on a coaches contract that will run through June 30th, 2027. Other details have not been released, as the contract still needs to be approved by the union membership and the state system board of governors. The coaches will vote on it first and that vote is expected to happen later in the spring semester.
Negotiations have been tense between both sides since the contract expired last June, with accusations from the union saying that the state system was not treating coaches fairly, and with one of the main sticking points being job security.
In a statement, APSCUF Coach Executive Leader John Gump said that their goal “has always been to have the efforts of the coaches on our campuses respected, appreciated and rewarded,” and added that he was happy with the outcome. State System Chancellor Dan Greenstein said that the agreement will benefit the university, the coaches and the students.
For now, coaches will continue to work under the terms of the agreement that expired June 30th of last year.
Meanwhile, faculty members of APSCUF will vote on the new teachers’ contract April 2nd to the 4th.
