The Islanders and Capitals are a point behind the Red Wings, Buffalo is tied with the Pens, and the Devils are only a point back.
The Penguins have won two of their last three games while the Devils have lost seven of their last ten.
After tonight, the Penguins have two straight road games against two of the NHL’s Western Conference points leaders, Friday at Colorado and Sunday at Dallas.

Former Penguins forward Konstantin Koltsov has passed away at age 42. Belarusian media report that Koltsov, the boyfriend of world number two women’s tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, died from a “detached blood clot” in his native country. Known for his blazing speed, Koltsov was the Penguins number one draft choice in 1999, 18th overall. He played parts of three seasons in Pittsburgh.
