A former Indiana County Commissioner and longtime businessman and entrepreneur from Homer City passed away on Friday at age 85.
Jack Dellafiora, a Coral native, was involved in financial services and worked as a stockbroker for a variety of interests before entering public service and becoming a county commissioner in 1976. Elected along with Jay Dilts to form a Democratic majority, he nonetheless formed an alliance with Republican Vaughn Davis as a commissioner. He was in office during the 1977 Johnstown Flood and re-formed the dormant Indiana County Redevelopment Authority, helping make possible the relocation of the devastated community of Robindale to its present location, which became Robindale Heights. His initiatives included the establishment of the Indiana County Transit Authority, the continued development of the county’s airport, and many other projects, such as the county parks and the birth of the Homer City Parks and Recreation Commission.
Dellafiora was also active in state politics, running for lieutenant governor in 1978, and he worked often with state leaders on energy projects, including alternative energy.
Jack Dellafiora is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Mary Jane, along with two sons and two daughters, and several grandchildren. Arrangements are in charge of the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City.
