State troopers are reminding motorists of some of the rules at red traffic lights.
State police public information officer Trooper Cliff Greenfield said that in Indiana County, at least 25 motorists were cited for violation of traffic signal laws in 2023, and 12 crashes investigated by troopers were due to people running red lights. Motorists are reminded that when they have a steady red light, they must stop behind the clearly-marked stop line on the road. If none, then the crosswalk serves as the stop line, and if neither are available, stop before entering the intersection. Right-hand turn rules at stop lights also apply unless a sign posted says otherwise.
Drivers are also reminded that if a signal is out of commission, the intersection should be treated as a four-way stop.
Any violations could result in a $25 fine, court costs and three points on the driving record.
