Pirates pitcher Quinn Priester had his best start of the spring training season as he struck out five of the first nine New York Yankee batters he faced and limited the Yanks to one run on three hits and a walk in 4 and 2/3rds innings en route to a 6-2 win.
Pirates righty Luis Ortiz allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four in four innings of relief to earn the win. Jack Brannigan hit a home run in the first inning and had an RBI single in the seventh. Jack Suwinski had a three-run homer in the same frame, Hudson Head doubled to drive in Mike Jarvis in the ninth for a 6-1 lead before Jorbit Vivas scored when Everson Pereira grounded into a forceout in the bottom of the ninth.
The Pirates will split the squad today with one team playing Atlanta at 6:05 PM, and the other team hosting the Detroit Tigers in Bradeton at 4:00, and we’ll have that game for you on WCCS.
