WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
A Shelocta man who was found guilty of trying to steal more than $1 million will be sentenced today in Indiana County Court.
Court documents show that 59-year-old Boyd Murray Watson, Jr. is due before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco this morning to be sentenced on charges of theft by deception, criminal attempt to the same offense and receiving stolen property in connection with an investigation in March of 2021. Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi said in February of that year, Watson had opened a business account with a local bank after allegedly starting a collections business. After two months of inactivity, Watson had over $1 million diverted to the account, but it was determined that the deposits were fraudulent in nature. Before he could be caught, Watson had already taken $5000 from the account. When he was apprehended, he told police that he had no intent to return the money.
Watson was convicted in December of last year after a jury took one hour to deliberate the case.
