Big news for the Steelers yesterday, as they agree to contract terms with former Ravens star linebacker Patrick Queen and reportedly work out a trade of often-grumpy wide receiver Diontae Johnson to Carolina for cornerback Donte Jackson. The Steelers will also swap a seventh round draft pick for the Panthers’ sixth round pick.
Johnson thanked the fans and his teammates in an Instagram post and wrote, “18 out.”
Jackson returned from a torn Achilles last season and started 16 games for Carolina. He has fourteen career interceptions in his six years in the NFL, none last year.
Queen has been a Steelers nemesis over the years but now he joins the black-and-gold on a three-year, $41 million contract. The 2020 first round draft pick made the Pro Bowl last year after making 133 tackles, 84 of them solo and nine of them for a loss. He intercepted a pass, forced a fumble, and recovered six fumbles. One of the league’s top inside pass rushers, Queen has 13-and-a-half sacks in four NFL seasons.
The NFL league year, when free agent players can sign with new teams, begins today at 4 PM.
