Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel has a lot on his plate lately, including keeping an eye on his daughter Cameron and her Shady Side Academy teammates in their win over River Valley on Friday, but as far as his own team, Capel is focused on the ACC tournament this week. With their win over North Carolina State on Saturday, Pitt surged into the fourth spot in the ACC bracket, earning a double-bye in the tournament. The Panthers won’t play until Thursday.
The ACC tournament begins on Tuesday.
Capel says the journey has been tough but the Panthers stuck together after starting 1-5 in the ACC.
Pitt is 21-10 and hoping for a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, but they are by no means assured of getting in. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Pitt in his “next four out” category, with seven teams ahead of them on the list of team’s not in the NCAA Tournament yet.
