While Pennsylvania’s Governor has put a new task force in place to help with election security, Senator Joe Pittman is at odds with how that task force was created.
Governor Josh Shapiro yesterday announced the formation and launch of the Pennsylvania Election Threats Task Force. The group will be made up of federal, state and local law enforcement and election administration partners that will work together to share information and coordinate plans to stop threats aimed at elections and electors and provide voters with accurate information. The task force will be headed up by Al Schmidt, the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
In his own statement, Senate Majority leader Joe Pittman said that while the Senate Republican Caucus remains committed to strengthening election integrity, he was not happy with the fact that the task force was created by a unilateral decision without any input from the General Assembly. He said that the Senate has passed a bill that provides a constitutional amendment on voter identification, and asks that state house and the Governor to allow the people to have a voice on Voter ID.
