The IUP basketball teams travel to Cal U for their next-to-last doubleheader of the regular season, and it’s a tough task for both Crimson Hawks teams.
Both the IUP and Cal women are on five-game winning streaks. The Crimson Hawks are 20-5 and 16-4 in the PSAC. The Vulcans are 19-7 and 14-6 in the conference. IUP won the first time the two teams played, 61-51 on January 29th.
The IUP men are 16-10 and 13-7 in the PSAC and they are on a two-game losing streak heading into tonight’s game against 8th-ranked Cal, which is 23-3 and 17-3 in the PSAC. Cal snapped a 21-game losing streak to IUP the first time they played, beating the Crimson Hawks 65-57.
IUP’s Ethan Porterfield draws nearer to Darryl Webb’s all-time men’s basketball career scoring mark. Webb finished his career with 1,949 points. Porterfield is at 1,840. He will have tonight’s game, plus Saturday’s game against Clarion, and at least one game in the PSAC Tournament to score the 109 points he needs to catch Webb. His next blocked shot will tie Webb for second-most in IUP history. Webb’s 162 blocks trail Devon Cottrell’s 207.
Tonight’s action gets underway with the pregame for the women’s game, at 5:15 on 92.5 FM U92.
