State Representative Jim Struzzi is getting fed up with delays in implementing a state program to address drug overdose deaths across the commonwealth.
At a meeting last week of the State House Human Services Committee, Struzzi says he fired “a bit of a warning shot” to administrators in charge of getting the Centers for Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder, which was created eight years ago, working with local managed care organizations, such as the Crossroads Treatment Center on Church Street in Indiana.
Struzzi said that in his six years in the state legislature, he has continuously heard the excuse, “We’re working on it,” particularly from the state Department of Human Services. He demanded a timeline, declaring “We’re wasting a lot of time on paperwork and that’s money…that could be used to actually help people.” He asked for a deadline on when guidelines would be rolled out and was told, “We will do that.”
