State police from the Punxsutawney Barracks are investigating two burglaries that happened in West Mahoning Township last Sunday.
Troopers say that between 8 AM and 3:30 PM on Sunday, an unknown person went into the home of an un-named 33-year-old Smicksburg man on Route 954 North and took several items before moving on to the detached garage and taking some more things. The suspect took two Stihl chainsaws, a chainsaw chain, a sharpening kit, a pair of black leather gloves and a drink. Police say that $262 worth of merchandise were taken from both the house and garage.
The other incident happened in the same time frame at the home of a Smicksburg couple in their 50’s, also on Route 954 North. This time, the suspect went through an window and took a safe and all the documents inside it, five gallons of gas along with the gas can, a $1000 check, $500 in $100 bills, another $500 in rolled quarters, and an unknown amount of nickels and dimes.
In both burglaries, the suspect was able to make their way in through unlocked windows or doors.
Police have not said if the same person committed both burglaries. Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call police at 814-938-0510.
