Homer City’s police chief has issued a statement on the decision to retire K-9 officer Thor.
At a meeting Tuesday night, the Homer City Borough Council voted to retire Thor. In a statement to the Homer City K-9 Unit Facebook page, Chief Anthony Jellison said that many reasons were given for Thor’s retirement, including Thor’s age, the vehicle use and costs for the program. While he feels it’s not what he wanted, Jellison said it was the right time for Thor to retire, and that it would be the best thing for his K-9 partner and the citizens of the borough. His final shift will be March 1st, but there are plans for a proper retirement recognition at the March 5th council meeting. After that, Chief Jellison said that “he will get lots of belly rubs and time for him to be a house pet and relaxing times.”
Jellison also thanked past and present council members and Mayors for their support and efforts to maintain the program. There’s no word if there will be another K-9 officer for Homer City Borough.
