After a well-deserved week of rest, the IUP basketball teams return to action tonight, taking on Mercyhurst in a doubleheader in Erie.
Men’s coach Joe Lombardi has his team at 14-6, 11-3 in the PSAC. The Crimson Hawks have won five of their last six and rebounded from a loss to Cal U last Monday with a Wednesday night win at Clarion. Mercyhurst is 11-12, and 7-8 in the conference. IUP won the first time they played, 66-54 on January 10th.
Lombardi says he is coaching a great bunch of young men and enjoying it.
Coach Craig Carey’s women’s team beat Mercyhurst at the KCAC, 61-41 on January 10th. IUP is 15-4, and 11-3 in the PSAC while Mercyhurst is 14-7, and 10-5. IUP has won four in a row since a January 20th loss to Edinboro, but they will be playing shorthanded after losing pivot Tierra Preston to a knee injury.
Carey says he will do whatever’s necessary to patch the holes, especially defensively.
Tonight’s doubleheader begins the second cycle through the PSAC West. The IUP teams will play each Wednesday and Saturday from now through the end of the regular season.
Tonight’s action gets underway with the women’s pregame at 5:15 on 92.5 FM U92.
