Governor Josh Shapiro presented his 2024-25 budget to a joint session of the House and Senate today from the Capitol Rotunda and it contains no tax increase for state residents and outlines three important issues.
In his near-90-minute speech, Shapiro said this year’s budget contains a surplus, which would help fund several projects geared towards underfunded public schools and growing industrial and high-tech jobs across the Commonwealth. He said even if all major projects were completed, his draft budget would still hold a surplus.
Shapiro mentioned his inaugural budget in 2023 and how it was labeled a “down payment” on his vision and said now is the time to step up the education and job industries.
Shapiro’s budget came out to $48.3 billion, which is a $3.7 billion increase over the past fiscal year.
