A man convicted of murder in the third degree is back in court today for a post-conviction relief act hearing.
47-year-old Dwight Darnell Bowen was convicted of killing a fellow prisoner at SCI Pine Grove in Indiana County on January 1st of 2019. Police said that Bowen called for prison guards shortly after 10 PM and they discovered his cellmate, 32-year-old Luis Santiago, dead due to asphyxia due to veinous obstruction. Bowen had been serving a life sentence for guilty pleas to the 2001 murders of two toddlers in a Molotov cocktail bombing in Philadelphia. On top of his life sentence, Bowen was ordered to serve 20-40 years in state prison for Santiago’s death.
The hearing is part of the procedure for a defendant to challenge their conviction or sentence.
