On Friday, new ovens and cooking equipment arrived at the center to help with their efforts to serve hot meals to those who need them. The facility had been using two residential ovens to cook for the people who call on the center. One of the ovens started to fail, and they were worried about the cost of replacing it, either with a commercial oven, which is what was needed, or with a residential oven. Executive director Jennifer Rairigh mentioned the problem to the Mission and Outreach Committee of Calvary Presbyterian Church and the committee took action, purchasing a new commercial stove and a new oven for the community center.
Rairigh said that the new equipment is not only what they needed to help them out now, but will allow the facility to continue to grow in the future. Each weekday, Chevy Chase serves around 100 hot, nutritious lunches as part of their food-related efforts.
