A man charged in connection with a robbery at a business in Downtown Indiana is due in court today for a sentencing hearing.
54-year-old Joseph Fances Hamay of Indiana pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery with the threat of immediate serious injury in connection with the robbery of Downtown Indiana Convenience Store on April 6th of last year, where he went into the store and demanded cash while brandishing a knife. Police were able to use surveillance video to identify him, and they also found the clothes he wore during the robbery discarded nearby. He was taken into custody in White Township. He initially faced five other charges in connection with the robbery, but those charges were not prosecuted.
Also due in court today for a sentencing hearing is 26-year-old William Tifa of Newark, New Jersey, who pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in connection with an incident on March 15th at Saltsburg Pharmacy. Tifa tried to pick up a phony prescription that was phoned into the pharmacy, but when he came to pick it up, Saltsburg Borough Police were on hand. A fight ensued where he bit an officer on the arm. He broke free from the police, but he was quickly recaptured.
