Statistically, TJ Watt beats Cleveland’s Myles Garrett for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Still, Garrett yesterday was named winner of the Pro Football Writers of America award. Watt will still have a shot at the AP Defensive Player of the Year in two weeks, but historically, the two awards line up.
Steelers quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan will interview for the offensive coordinator jobs with the Raiders and Saints. The door is still not closed on his returning to Pittsburgh.
NFL
Jim Harbaugh will return to the NFL as head coach of the LA Chargers. The national championship-winning Michigan coach was hired yesterday. Harbaugh coached the 49ers from 2011 to 2014, going 44-19-1 and making the NFC Championship Game three straight times. The 2012 Niners lost the Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens, led by Harbaugh’s brother, John.
Michigan will hire Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator/O-line coach, Sherrone Moore as his replacement.
The Tennessee Titans officially announced the hiring of former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as their new head coach.
