This morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved distributing the first few rounds of opioid settlement money to several qualified projects.
One of the projects is the collaboration between the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission and Indiana Regional Medical Center on a mobile unit that will reach some of the more rural areas of the county.
Kami Anderson with the AICDAC says the project will not only help on the physical side but with mental health as well.
Of the $918,702.59 that the county has already received, $200,000 will go towards the mobile unit. Other projects to be funded with the settlement money include a contract with EMS agencies to provide intervention and treatment resources; expansion of school prevention services; a Children, youth and family services SUD case manager; and an agreement with Saltworks Theater Group to bring interactive plays about drug abuse to county schools.
Commissioners also approved the distribution of 2022 Act 13 Impact Fee money for the county. The county received $146,600.80 in unconventional gas well fees, and the money will go to fund the county HAZMAT team, the county fire academy, farmland presentation, GIS for planning and tax assessment and the sustainable economic development task force, with the rest going to the capital reserve fund to be used for approved purposes.
