The suspect in the shooting at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport will stand trial on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, fleeing police and reckless endangerment.
22-year-old Tyler Mieczkowski is accused of firing shots into a box truck at the airport near Latrobe on December 29th and leading police on a sixteen-mile chase that ended when police put down a spike strip in Blairsville and his car crashed. He tried to flee on foot, but police were able to eventually apprehend him. The driver of the truck was not injured, and he was the one who called police.
Mieczkowski’s attorney said that his client was going through a mental health episode at the time of the shooting. District Judge Tamara Mahady ruled that Miecskowski should remain in jail on no bail until his trial. A formal arraignment hearing is set for February 28th at the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas.
