With the winter weather rolling through, people are being reminded to be careful when driving and that they can check where PennDOT plows are by using the state’s 511 maps online.
The map, located at 511pa.com, provides users with traffic delay notifications, traffic speed information, weather forecasts and other notifications. It can also show where snowplows are located. On the main map, click on the “PennDOT Plow Trucks” option, and it will show where plows are on any state road thanks to trackers placed on the trucks. The signal also shows a truck’s route and which roads have already been treated, but if it is a heavy snowstorm, roads could be tricky by the time the plow has finished its route.
Drivers are reminded to keep about six car lengths behind a plow and to not pass them and avoid driving beside them as you could be in their blind spots.
