While the water level has increased at the Beaver Run Reservoir, the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is going to keep mandatory conservation efforts in place for now.
Rain and snow over the first half of January has resulted in the restoration of 764 million gallons to the reservoir, but that brings it back up to the level that triggered the mandatory conservation restrictions for customers served in the northern part of the authority’s service area, which includes portions of Indiana County. Officials with the authority say they are keeping the restrictions in place out of an abundance of caution. They want to be careful in case they have any water line breaks due to the low temperatures. Another reason for the restrictions remaining in place is due to the fact that the precipitation has not been consistent.
The conservation efforts could potentially end when temperatures return to warmer levels.
