“The Pope of College Football” is now a Hall-of-Famer. The late Pitt sports information director Beano Cook has been elected to the College Sports Communicators Hall of Fame. Cook was a 1954 Pitt graduate and was the SID at his alma mater from 1956 to 1966.
Cook then worked for ABC Sports, the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, and for the Miami Dolphins, the Mutual Radio Network, CBS Sports, and ESPN. He died in 2012.
