It’s rare that both IUP basketball teams are coming off a loss, but that’s the case tonight. The teams travel to play UPJ after having both been beaten at Gannon on Saturday.
It’s a good matchup in the first game…IUP’s women are 10-3, 6-2 in the PSAC, while UPJ is 11-4, and 6-3 in the conference.
Coach Craig Carey says the Crimson Hawks will be facing a veteran UPJ team that features five senior starters.
The IUP men are 9-5 and 6-2 in the PSAC. UPJ is 5-10 and 3-6. IUP has already seen a lot of the Mountain Cats, who have played four games at the KCAC this season, twice at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic season opener and twice at the IRMC Thanksgiving Classic.
Coach Joe Lombardi says his team took its lumps against Gannon on Saturday, but they’re ready to bounce back.
Tonight’s doubleheader coverage begins with the pregame on 92.5 FM U92 at 5:15.
IUP senior center Ethan Porterfield has been named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List. It’s the eighth straight year IUP has had a player on the list. The Bevo Francis Award is given to the top player in small college basketball, including NCAA Division II, Division III, the NAIA, USCAA, and NCCAA.
Porterfield is averaging 17.9 points and 9 rebounds per game.
The Bevo Francis Watch List will be reduced to the Top 50 on February 15th.
