The State Game Commission wants you to help them find flocks of turkey.
Starting Monday and for the next two months, the Game Commission is asking state residents to report the location of turkey flocks they come across, including whether it’s on public land or private (or unknown), and where on the land the birds were seen. Game Commission crews will assess the sites for their potential for trapping turkeys, with the aim of leg banding and releasing them. They will be let go at the same place they are found and will not be moved to another location.
In addition to leg bands, some gobblers will be fitted with GPS devices in certain Wildlife Management Units, including 2D, which includes the entire western half of Indiana County.
If you would like to participate, you can report your findings at pgcdatacollection.pa.gov/TurkeyBroodSurvey, through March 15th.
