The Pirates yesterday avoided arbitration with four players, signing them all to one-year contracts.
All-Star pitcher Mitch Keller signed for more than $5.4 million, which is a rise of more than $3 million. Fellow All-Star David Bednar’s salary jumped from $745,000 to $4.51 million. Infielder/outfielder Connor Joe signed for $2.125 million. Newly-acquired outfielder Edward Olivares signed for $1.35 million.
The Pirates have extended non-roster spring training invitations to veteran pitchers Ben Heller, Michael Plassmeyer, Ryder Ryan, and Hunter Stratton, along with position players
Sergio Alcantara, Gilberto Celestino, Jake Lamb, and Billy McKinney. Only Stratton was with the Pirates organization last season.
