The Indiana County Commissioners met this morning and approved three labor agreements.
One of the agreements is with the PSSU Commissioner Residual Group that represents CYS Caseworkers, some planning employees and the GIS office. It is a three-year agreement with 4% wage increases in each year. Another agreement is with the UMWA for the Jail Staff, which is a similar three-year agreement with 4% wage increases. The third was an arbitration agreement between the county and two county detectives, who received a four-year agreement with increases of 3.5% in the first year, 3.25% in the second year and 3% in the final two years.
This means seven labor contracts that expired at the end of last year are now signed, and county labor negotiator John Reilly said that one contract remains.
In other business, Indiana County native and Opera superstar Renee Fleming was honored with a special proclamation from the Indiana County Commissioners for receiving the Kennedy Center Honor last month. While she was unable to attend herself, former director of the IUP Lively Arts Hank Knerr read a statement from her and said she appreciated the honor and remembered her last visit to IUP and Indiana in 2013.
Other proclamations included National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Tuesday and Human Trafficking Awareness Month and Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue as part of Human Trafficking Awareness Day tomorrow.
