The Penguins turned in a dominant performance on the road in Philadelphia last night, beating the Flyers handily. Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
Coach Mike Sullivan says Rakell’s power play goal got the Penguins off on the right foot.
Sullivan says his new line combinations, especially the second line featuring Malkin, Drew O’Connor, and Byran Rust, have given the Pens balance.
Rickard Rakell has scored five goals this season, all of them since returning from an extended stay on the injured list. Sullivan says the forced downtime helped the veteran winger.
The Devils, Red Wings, Capitals, and Penguins all have 44 points on the season, good for a four-way tie for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card slot, although the Devils continue to hold the spot based on tiebreakers.
The Pens play Vancouver tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena. The Canucks have 55 points and are in first place in the Pacific Division. They’re tied with the Bruins, a point behind Winnipeg in the overall NHL standings.
