Two employees at SCI Pine Grove are being credited along with a neighbor for saving the lives of two people trapped on the roof of a burning house in nearby Crabtree early Thursday morning.
The Tribune-Review reports that Kandace Gettins and Marissa Perillo, both of Luxor in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, were on their way to work at SCI Pine Grove when they came across the house fire at the intersection of Routes 119 and Rizzo Road. They teamed up with a neighbor, Anthony Edward, to notify 911 and then guided a man and his daughter to a back roof of the house. The father then threw the daughter off the roof into the arms of Edward, and then Gettins helped the father jump off.
The fire destroyed the house. One dog was rescued and a second was killed in the fire. It’s believed the fire started on the first floor of the converted duplex. The exact cause is still unknown at this time, but state police fire marshals have been brought in to investigate.
