A Blairsville woman is now in Westmoreland County Jail on charges of supplying the drugs to a man who died from a drug overdose in 2022, while a second Blairsville woman remains at large.
35-year-old Ashley Kirkland was arrested yesterday by state police on a charge of drug delivery resulting in death. She is charged in connection with the death of 30-year-old Aaron Lewis of Derry Township. He was found dead of an overdose of fentanyl on August 15th, 2022. Investigators found stamp bags under a mattress. Lewis and Kirkland were in a relationship at the time and the two went to a hotel in Blairsville the night before and purchased the drugs. Kirkland told police that she purchased the drugs from 44-year-old Melissa Alvarez, also of Blairsville. A warrant has been issued for Alvarez, who is charged with drug delivery resulting in death and drug possession.
Kirkland remains in jail on $100,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 17th.
