Coach Mike Tomlin says the Steelers will stay with the hot hand at quarterback for the final regular season game on Saturday against the Ravens. Mason Rudolph will get his third straight start whether or not Kenny Pickett is available. Rudolph has led the Steelers to consecutive wins over Cincinnati and Seattle while throwing for more than 500 yards and two touchdowns, and has been daring enough to throw the long ball on crucial downs. Just as importantly, he has not turned the ball over.
At his weekly media session yesterday, Tomlin said Mason is his man.
Tomlin says the Steelers will practice as if they will be playing against Baltimore’s front-line players, including MVP favorite Lamar Jackson, even though the top overall seed in the upcoming playoffs can rest certain players with nothing at stake for them in the game.
The coach says the Steelers have to play solid football to beat Baltimore.
Steelers/Ravens has developed into one of the NFL’s most intense rivalries, and Tomlin expects that to be evident on Saturday.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said yesterday that he didn’t yet know how he is going to handle his personnel for Saturday.
Harbaugh says one thing he expects is that his team will be ready to play against the Steelers.
The Steelers are hoping they are a bit healthier going into this week’s game. Tomlin said TJ Watt’s undisclosed injury suffered on Sunday does not appear to be serious, and he is hopeful that Minkah Fitzpatrick, Elandon Roberts, and Trenton Thompson will be able to return to work during the week. He said all three will be limited practice participants to start the week and their workload could increase or decrease after that.
