A pay increase for state lawmakers is set to go into effect January 1st.
The pay raise that took effect at the start of the month will bring the base salary of a state legislator to approximately $106,422, or $8,869 a month. This amount stems from a state law that automatically raises the base wage for legislators, the governor, judges, and other top state officials based on the Consumer Price Index for the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Delaware-Maryland area. The prior base salary that went into effect last year was a little more than $102,000.
Lawmakers elected to their position will make more than the base salary, but the exact amount is not known at this time. One example is State Senator Joe Pittman, who is the current majority leader of the Senate. He, along with the majority leader of the house and minority leaders in both the House and Senate will earn $154,192.
