GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Indiana downed Greater Latrobe for the second time this year by a score of 48-40. Bella Antonacci led all scorers with 17 points. Cassie Boyer followed with 12 and Addy Hutton with 10. The Little Indians wrap up their appearance at the Greater Latrobe Tournament with a rematch against Hempfield tonight at 6.
In the Heritage Conference, River Valley cruised by Derry, 62-18, in the Apollo Ridge Christmas Tournament. The Panthers jumped out to a 30-0 first quarter lead, aided by 10 Derry turnovers. Three players were in double figures. Ava Persichetti finished with 16 points, Alessia LaMantia 14, and Kennedy Kitner 13. They will face Apollo Ridge for the tournament championship tonight at 6.
Marion Center fell to Punxsutawney, 45-42. Lydia Miller led the Stingers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Black added nine points.
United beat Tussey Mountain, 53-20, in the North Star Tournament. They will face Somerset in the championship game tonight at 6.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Homer-Center claimed the Ferndale Tournament championship with a 63-44 win over the hosting Yellow Jackets. Four Wildcats were in double figures. Leading the charge was Angelo Alexander with 20 points. Max Voyda added 11, and Owen Saiani and Caleb Palmer each had 10.
River Valley downed Summit Academy, 50-42, at the Apollo Ridge Christmas Tournament. Dom Speal led the way with 20 points. Brad McDivitt posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Like the girls’ team, they will play Apollo Ridge in the championship tonight at 7:30.
United ran past Tussey Mountain, 78-56, in the North Star Tournament. Isaac Worthington led scorers with 21 points. Carter Payne added 17 and Dmitri Worthington had 11. The Lions will face North Star in the championship game tonight at 8.
Indiana opens play in the St. Joseph’s Tournament tonight at 8 against the hosting Spartans.
WRESTLING
United took second at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic yesterday. Josef Garshnick defeated Corry’s Steven Willis by fall to take home first place in the 127-weight class. Gideon Bracken (133) and Caden McCully (152) each took second, while Jacob Sombronski (114) took third.
River Valley’s Kaden Barnhart (160) and Chase Stuchal (215) also brought home second place finishes.
