The NHL Trade Deadline is still a little over two months away, but rumors are already surfacing as to whether the Penguins will sell off key pieces or if they will add to their roster in hopes of making the playoffs.
Most outlets say the Pens will sell, with Chris Johnston of The Athletic speculating that forward Jake Guentzel could be a top trade chip. Guentzel is in the final year of his contract but is still putting up formidable numbers. In 33 games, he’s scored 16 goals, three on the Power Play, and 22 assists.
Meanwhile, the site Leafs Nation believes backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic could be a possible target for Toronto. Nedeljkovic is 5-2-2 in 10 games with a .918 save percentage, which would put him in the Top 10 across the league. He’s currently on a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
The NHL Trade Deadline is March 8.
At Penguins practice yesterday, all players were accounted for except forwards Bryan Rust and Matt Nieto. Rust reportedly skated separately before practice.
