The Indiana County Commissioners will hold a special meeting today and the main item on the agenda will be the passage of the 2024 county budget.
The budget has been a hot topic with the county commissioners since late November after the commissioners rejected the first draft of the budget. That draft included a property tax increase of 1.7 mils. A second draft reduced the tax increase to 1.19 mils, but that was also rejected by the Commissioners on December 1st. The third draft, which was approved on December 8th, included a .9 mil increase, which would raise the county’s property tax rate to 5.805 mils.
While the third draft was eventually approved, County Commissioner Sherene Hess said that work has continued to try to reduce the tax hit on the citizens further.
Also on today’s agenda is an agreement between the county’s Children and Youth Services office and Computer Aid, Incorporated, and an intergovernmental transfer agreement involving the Communities at Indian Haven.
The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 at the Commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the courthouse. The meeting will also be streamed on Zoom. Click on the link below to join the stream.
