A Florida marketing company has reached a settlement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that will forbid it from operating in the state.
The state accused RMC Direct Mail Services, LLC, of distributing junk mail that was intended to pressure recipients into responding. Attorney General Michelle Henry said the company’s junk mailers went beyond merely annoying people, “startling (them) with urgent messaging and false representations” by using terms such as “Final Notice,” “Respond By,” “Time Sensitive” and “Immediate Response.” Further, it made it appear some of the mailers were from the Internal Revenue Service, home mortgage lenders, or vehicle registrations, and some were fake checks.
Henry says RMC Direct Mail Services, which will also pay for the investigation into its actions, “has sent its last piece of junk mail to Pennsylvanians.”
