The White Township Stewardship Committee has released a draft version of a stewardship plan for the White’s Woods Nature Center.
The release of the plan comes after two years of research done by the committee. The plan offers recommendations for maintenance of the forest canopy and controlling invasive plants in the area. It will also focus on the conservation, preservation and protection of White’s Woods and suggests collaborating with local environmental groups.
Committee Chairperson Barb Hauge said the plan recommends the township extensive public engagement as the plans’ provisions are implemented. She also recommends that the township establish routine monitoring of White’s Woods and that stakeholders take part in ongoing updates of the plan. In her executive summary of the plan, Hauge said that the nature center is “a special place in our community and the desire of this committee and the public is to see this woodland develop into an old growth forest.”
