With the NHL’s Christmas roster freeze taking effect at 11:59 PM last night, the Penguins beat the deadline by assigning forward Vinney Hinostroza and defenseman Ryan Shea to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The roster freeze is in effect until 12:01 AM on December 28th. Teams cannot trade, waive, or assign players to their minor league affiliates except for certain specific situations, such as injuries to their NHL players. They are allowed to recall players from the minors.
The Penguins had the day off yesterday. They’ll welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to PPG Paints Arena tomorrow night.
