Pirates General manager Ben Cherington continued his offseason roster construction project over the weekend, adding another outfielder. The Bucs have acquired Edward Olivares for Kansas City in exchange for minor league outfielder Deivis Nadal. Olivares hit .263 with 23 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, and 36 RBIS for the Royals last year. He played primarily in right field and as a designated hitter. He’s also played for the Padres and is a career .261 hitter with 24 home runs in four seasons.
Olivares was acquired on Friday, a day after the Pirates traded for former Yankees outfielder Billy McKinney.
