The Federal Bureau of Investigation is warning people to be aware of scammers, especially with the holiday shopping season entering its final weeks.
The FBI says that the most common holiday scams are non-delivery or non-payment crimes. In the non-delivery scam, the victim pays for the item online, but never receives it. And in the non-payment scam, goods or services are shipped but the seller is never paid. Other common online shopping scams include scammers offering too-good-to-be-true deals via phishing emails or ads, sites offer unrealistic discounts or with special coupons and secondary markets for airline miles, gift cards, rewards credits and similar products that are based off someone’s personal information.
If you feel you are the victim of a scam, the FBI suggests that you contact the financial institution immediately when you discover fraudulent information and report the crime to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov.
