The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is back to an even 101-101 split after another Democrat has resigned his seat.
Representative John Galloway of Bucks County is stepping down to take an elected post as a district judge after winning the seat in the November election. This removes the Democrat party majority in the state house as the legislature goes into holiday break. A special election is scheduled for his district on February 13th, during an extended break in activity in the PA House. In a memo, house speaker Joanna McClinton said that the lengthy break is due to a water leak above the house floor and the necessary repairs that would take weeks to complete, but some House Republicans say that the delay is so the special election can be held.
Aside from the special joint house session for the Governor’s budget, members of the state house will not be called back to session until March.
