Major League Baseball yesterday announced a Spring Training showcase event featuring the top 20 to 25 prospects from each MLB team. The event, called “Spring breakout”, will be March 14th through the 17th and it’s not a tournament…some teams will have two games, some will have only one.
The Pirates’ prospects will get only one game, but in an mlb.com feature highlighting the five most notable games, the Pirates/Orioles game March 14th in Bradenton is the first game listed. Six Baltimore prospects and four Pittsburgh prospects are in baseball’s Top 100. The preview touts the Orioles top-ranked hitting prospects against the Pirates’ hottest pitching prospects, imagining 2022 top overall pick Jackson Holliday batting against 2023 top pick Paul Skenes. Jared Jones and Anthony Solometo are also mentioned as future Bucs who could be in the game.
Four of the Pirates’ top five prospects are pitchers…Skenes is number one and is rated the third best prospect in all of baseball. Infielder Termarr Johnson is the Bucs’ number two, followed by Jones, Solometo, and pitcher Bubba Chandler.
